Despite it's name SFTP is NOT FTP (is completely another protocol). Cobian Backup doesn't directly support SFTP but it can work with it using Bitvise Tunnelier.

Note that I am not tested this solution but many users have reported that it seems to work.

Quote:
Hint - you can use Cobian's events to start Tunnelier before the backup, and quit it after the backup.

the Cobian events should look similar to this:

BEFORE BACKUP:

EXECUTE,"C:\Program Files\Bitvise Tunnelier\Tunnelier.exe"," -profile=""c:\program files\bitvise tunnelier\test.tlp"" -hide=main -loginonstartup -autoLogout -exitOnLogout"

(where test.tlp is a saved Tunnelier profile with your SSH settings, -hide=main starts Tunnelier minimised to the system tray, -loginonstartup automatically logs in on startup - the rest is self explanatory)

PAUSE,10,

(the pause is needed to give Tunnelier enough time to initiate the SSH tunnel)

AFTER BACKUP:

PAUSE,10,

(wait so Tunnelier can -autoLogout and -exitOnLogout)

taskkill /IM /F tunnelier.exe

(just in case, kill the Tunnelier process if -autoLogout and -exitOnLogout didn't do their job)

The advatange of using -autoLogout and -exitOnLogout is that there is no icon left in the system tray (if you just kill the process, the icon remains in the taskbar until you move your mouse over it, which is a small annoyance)
