Unsure of backup type to select

Hi, I have a need to create a backup task which simply keeps an up to date copy of certain folders at their current state (whenever the task runs). There only needs to be a single copy of everything, so it's more like a clone of the current state of things. Most files won't have changed, so subseque...

Re: Incremental backup doing a full backup

Put the debug right up, but I'm pleased to say that on running this time, it didn't repeat all the photos. I'm guessing maybe some permissions changed or something, but it's all good now :D

Re: Incremental backup doing a full backup

Thanks for the pointer. I've looked at a random file that was copied, and it showed the user who runs Cobian as having Full Control (as well as admins and SYSTEM) Looking at the log (I'm assuming the one in the main Cobian UI?), there was nothing flagged about those files, it seemed quite a brief lo...

Re: Incremental backup doing a full backup

OK, so ran a new incremental (rather than waiting for the schedule) and it's WAY better than before. Any locations outside of my Windows User folder was 0 bytes as I'd expect. However, there are some files that made it through on my user folder for the incremental which haven't changed. Most I can l...

Re: Incremental backup doing a full backup

OK, great, I've deleted all backups, flipped the switch and done my first Full backup. Will wait a day or so for some files to change and try and incremental. I'll report back

Re: Incremental backup doing a full backup

Ah, thanks for the explanation. Mine is NOT ticked. Do you want me to tick it then and run the task again?
I'm actually low on space now, is it safe to delete the last incremental and the next one will do diffs from the full? Or will it not behave like that?

Re: Incremental backup doing a full backup

Sorry, I can't see a "clear the archive attribute" (see pic). You say it must be on, the "files is ready for archiving" is on, but that sounds like the opposite of a clearing of the archive, so I'm a bit confused as to what it should be set to.

Re: Incremental backup doing a full backup

No, I wasn't sure what value was "good". Are you saying that I should select all files that are in my backup set and un-set the archive bit?

Re: Incremental backup doing a full backup

Thanks for the reply. Going to a file at random (from the source of the backup set), the property "File is ready for archiving" is ticked. Should that be unticked? BTW, I should mention this is under Windows 11, so I'm getting this from right clicking, Properties > Advanced > Advanced Attributes. Le...

Incremental backup doing a full backup

Hey, I'm probably doing something daft, but I setup an incremental task. I did my initial backup and have all the folders with "(Full)" after them, as you'd expect. I then plugged in my USB backup drive again a few days later and told it to run all tasks again; getting additional folders with "(Incr...
