Archives do not open

Post by samez »

We needed files from backups. Copies were archived 7-zip and a password was set.
There are different archives for 5 days, but they cannot be opened.
Archivers swear that this is not an archive file.
Cobian writes: ERR An error has been detected while processing "D:\file.7z": File not found. ERR Invalid pointer operation.
Help, pzhl! What to do?

Sounds like a corrupted file... :(

Compression should never be used.

How so? There is such a function, but you can't use it?

You can use it, but there is a text under that says "this makes the backup less robust". A single corrupted bit can corrupt the whole backup. Anyways, if you are sure you are using the right password, try to extract it with 7zip.

7zip swears that this is not an archive and does not even ask for a password.
