Setting up a simple mirror backup

Post by erikfernandez »

I'm trying to backup my PC to an external hard drive. All I want is for the backup to simply mirror any files I have on the harddrive. I don't want it to create new full backups or incrementals, just a simple mirror of my hard drive. Any advice on how best to do this? Thank you in advance!

I keep testing different settings and every time it keeps backing up an additional full backup. That would be ok if it deleted the original, but if it keeps doing full backups I'm going to run out of space on the external very quickly.

* Don't create separated backups
* Check the mirror option

Thank you for the quick response. If you could list the exact boxes to check that would be very helpful. I've tried so many different combinations and every time I keep getting additional full backups - with the external hard drive having two of every folder/file. Thank you!

* Create new separated backups - unchecked
* Mirror task (using safe mirror directory) - checked

It appears the problem I'm is that one of the folders I'm trying to backup (along with hard drive files) is on a flash drive. If the flash drive folder is included in the task, all folders (including hard drive folders) backup redundantly. If I run the task without the flash drive folder selected, it works smoothly.

I thought maybe the work around would be to create a 2nd task that would do just the flash drive, but that seems to have the original problem of redundant full backups.

Interesting So the flash drive is one of the sources of a task?

Perhaps you can make one task with only THAT source.
