email setup not working

Post by drshufer »

Hi I'm trying to set up email for the logs. I have tried using google's server
smtp.google.com port 587 auto security
The program waits a long time then gives error.

Then tried smtp.aol.com port 587 tls
get this message
Testing your mail settings...

Connecting to the smtp server smtp://smtp.aol.com:587...
Connected.

Authenticating user arphweb@aol.com...

An error occurred while testing the mail settings: The SMTP server has unexpectedly disconnected.

Any ideas?
Thanks

I think, to use gmail, you need to allow the use of 3rd party clients in your gmail settings.

For information: Google are in the process of screwing up access to gmail. Unless you can "log in with Google" they'll shortly be stopping access from mailreaders.

You need to create an application specific password in Gmail

Go to:
Google Account
Security
App passwords

Create an application specific password, copy and paste into Cobian.

Just replace your usual password in the mail settings of Cobian Reflector with the application specific password you generated in your google account.
