Old backup copies are not deleting/being overwritten

Post by WBD »

Recently switched from Cobian 11 to Cobian Reflector. On Cobian 11, I had it set up so only 2 full copies would be on the hardrive, and the newest backup would overwrite the OLDEST backup on the drive.

I copied the exact settings I had from Cobian 11 to Cobian Reflector for each task. I have attached screenshots of my current task settings.

I am not sure if this is because some of the backups on the drive were done with Cobian 11 and now with Cobian Reflector its not recognizing those backups as something to overwrite?

The program doesn't import the history of the old program so it needs to create its history self (you will need to wait until it created 2 full backups and THEN it will delete the oldest)

I believe that one of the drives we backup has gone through at least 3 backup cycles though? Not entirely sure on this though but assuming that is the case, is there anything I should change in my settings?

If not, I'll keep an eye on this and confirm if this is the case (that its just not overwriting (OLD backups)

Thanks

Always check the history tab to see if the backups are stored.

Also, just out of curiosity, I had one backup take 44 hours but the next was 18 hours.
Same settings, creating entirely new backups (not overwriting anything).
Any reason why this is the case?

@ WBD...

Did you ever get Reflector to overwrite backups?

It does not seem to work for me and I run out of disk space on the destination drive!

Thanks.

You need to uncheck Create separated backups.

Hi,
I've unchecked "Create separated backups" and now the problem is solved for me too.
However, I noticed that if files are deleted from the source, these files are still retained on the backup destination.
Is it possible to solve this problem too?
My configuration is quite simple: every day a full backup is made on a different folder (MON-TUE-WED-THU-FRI).
Thank you.
Simon.

You want to activate the Mirror mode for your task. Be aware that a mirror is NOT a backup but if you don't care for the safity of your files, just check the Mirror option.
