ERR 2022-08-09 14:35:30 An error occurred while checking for updates: The operation has timed out

Is the program running as an application? Are you using the -autoclose command line parameter?

I took all the defaults on the install, so whatever the defaults are, is what I used.

The default is installing as an application yes, but this should not close the engine (unless you are running another instance somehow).
