Hi, I'm a new user of this forum.
So far I have used Cobian to make backups to drives via Usb.
Now I have a Nas connected in the Lan network and I would like to ask if there is a solution to backup using a Nas user (and password protected).
I would like to avoid logging into NAS via a windows user ... for security reasons.
Thanks in advance
sorry for my bad english
I await your info.
Ciao

Nas user access
Re: Nas user access
You can try using impersonation with the nas user name on it. If that doesn't work try mounting the drive as a pre-backup event with NET USE.

Re: Nas user access
Ciao Luis,
thanks for your reply ...
► "The user .\userName could not log in: incorrect username or password" .... but, they are both correct!
► I'm using Cobian as "Service" whit "Impersonation"
• userNas: userName
• passwordNas: xyz
► The paths of files are:
• Source: F:\sourceFolder
• Destination: \\Nas\folder\destinationFolder
Have you any advice or links about that?
Tks again

thanks for your reply ...
I' doing some test and I just used "Impersonation" but I received always same error:
► "The user .\userName could not log in: incorrect username or password" .... but, they are both correct!
► I'm using Cobian as "Service" whit "Impersonation"
• userNas: userName
• passwordNas: xyz
► The paths of files are:

• Destination: \\Nas\folder\destinationFolder
I found some info on the internet but I'm not very expert in this subject ...
Have you any advice or links about that?
Tks again

Re: Nas user access
The user .\username indicates that this is a local user. You need to use NASName\username

Re: Nas user access
The basic syntax you need to add as pre and post events look like:
/C net use j: \\NASName\TargetFolder USER:username password
/C net use j: /delete
for syntax: net use /?
/C net use j: \\NASName\TargetFolder USER:username password
/C net use j: /delete
for syntax: net use /?
Re: Nas user access
Did you try put the destination with the NAS' IP? Ex: • Destination: \\10.10.1.15\folder\destinationFolderDnL4Uk wrote: ↑09 Nov 2022, 18:23 Ciao Luis,

Sometimes I have problems when I try to add the destination as Server Name and if I put it with the IP works. I have a NAS too, and I have this configuration:
Instalation: as application for all users
Configurations: default
Task - Advanced:
Name: user1
Domain: MyDomain (I have it on domain)
Pass: the nas user pass.
Try it

My tests looks like to go in the right way, thanks for your infos!!!
Now I'll try to know better all the options of Cobian ... then after I'll able to start with real backup.
At the moment I would like to ask you just a little question:
I'm trying to modify Timestamp format in the setting area ...
When I change the default format "HH;mm;ss" ["semicolon"] with "HH:mm:ss" ["colon"],
the log give me the message "The settings have been changed and saved" but the name of folder
is saved still with old format ►► "HH;mm;ss" [es." nameFolder 2022-11-11 09;42;25"]
Looks like doesn't take the "colon" format.
What could it depend on?
I await your infos

Re: Nas user access
If you have a decent NAS like Synology or Qnap you can use a FTPS or SFTP connection to it to avoid impersonating users.
And as other people said, avoid using NAS name - always use the IP address.
