Post by streik »

error: When in Advanced they choose "Use absolute paths", it creates a folder at the destination, which you don't have to create:

D:\Target_Folder\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy4\

And it also creates in the tablet, the following folders:

\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy4\

Once the ShadowCopy4 image is made, before compressing, you have to enter:

GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy4\

And then compress.

So that, do not include these folders in the compressed file, in the event that the box is activated:

"Use absolute paths"

And don't create the following subfolders, inside the "target" folder specified by the user.

\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy4\

It's doing what you are asking it to do: using absolute paths

The compressor, for the moment, well, it does have to memorize the absolute path.

But, inside the user's target folder, you don't have to create these folders:

c:\Target_folder\

"\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy4\Compress_archive.extension_compress"

The option is (and always has been since 1999) for the destination not for the archive. The paths in the archive is only a bonus, which can be inactivated in the options.

The ideal would be to incorporate an additional box, which will activate:
If you want absolute paths to be created only in the compress file.

In other words, there would be two boxes:

One that currently says:
| | "Use absolute paths"

And below another one that would say:
| | "Absolute paths only in the compressed file."

Because creating as subfolders to the target, the absolute paths, is ideal for when it is not compressed.

But when you compress, you want the compressed file to stay in the target folder.

Currently, when we compress with cobian reflect, with absolute paths, to find the backup archive, we have to go into a bunch of subfolders.
That's just to find the compressed file.

* When in fact the administrator "perhaps" only wants to create the absolute paths "only inside the compressed file".

If you add this second box that can activate:

| | "Absolute paths only in the compressed file."

Only the absolute paths within the compressed file would be created.

But the compressed file would be put directly in the target folder.

Thanks to this additional box, the administrator can choose that the compressed file stays in the target folder, and only the absolute paths are stored in the compressed file.

Much easier also later, to be able to upload the file to the cloud, because it is directly in the "target folder".

And also this second box also allows absolute paths to be stored, but only in the compressed file.

Thank you very much.

This additional option, preconfigured:
| | "Absolute paths only in the compressed file."

would only be used in monolithic compressed files, of course.
