Initial backup in Differential backup mode

Post by MarkGNY »

I installed a Cobian Reflector and configured my backup using Differential mode. I assume the very first backup should include all files. But I see this at the end of the task run:
** Processed files: 14413. Backed up files: 107. Created folders: 891. Backup size: 143.23 MB. **
How do I make sure my settings are correct?

The first backup should have be done Fully if no settings have been changed in the Options-Engine tab.

My understanding is, when you chose Differential:
- when the task runs the very first time it will take a full backup
- in subsequent runs it will be:
- differential based on task schedule
- full every number of days based on the task properties "Make a full backup every..."
But, in my case I only see a differential backup. How does it even know what to include into a differential if it never took a full backup? What would it even compare with to identify a delta?
Please clarify what exactly I should do to set it up correctly.
By the way, this wasn't an issue when I was running the old Cobian Backup before I switched to the Reflector.

It uses the archive attribute but one full backup should have been done first (if no settings have been changed in the Options-Engine tab)

Could you please clarify.
Should I run a Full backup first and then change the backup mode to differential?
If that is what I have to do, that is definitely NOT how it was with the old cobian backup.
Please clarify!
thanks

The first backup should have be done Fully AUTROMATICALLY if no settings have been changed in the Options-Engine tab. You don't need to do anything. The first backup is ALWAYS full (if you have not unchecked this option in Options/Engine).

What you said i know. That is why I posted my issue. I don't see the first full backup done automatically. That was my original post.
Please provide a way to fix this issue.
