Separate files not included in backup?

Post by quasar »

Hi,

I switched from Cobian Backup to Cobian Reflector.
In Reflector there seems to be a problem to include separate files in the backup.
My backup is as follows: I backup from my harddisk to an external disk.
The backup contains several folders and also a few files that are in the main folder.

So the backup looks as follows:
\Documents\abc (a folder with files in it)
\Documents\def (a folder with files in it)
\Documents\ghi (a folder with files in it)
\Documents\mmm.jpg (a single file)
\Documents\nnn.docx (a single file)
\Documents\ooo.accdb (a single file).

I want all these folders and files to be backuped to 'Documents' on an external hard disk.

The folders (abc, def, ghi in my example) are correctly backuped with the files in them.
Yet the files that are not in a folder (mmm, nnn and ooo in my example), are not included in the backup.
But they are in the task in Cobian Reflector.
How is it possible that they are not backuped?

Best regards,

Tested. Works OK here.

Hi,

I tested again; one of the separate files had been changed and it seemed it was not backuped.

But at a closer look, Reflector had made a new folder in which the separate files had been put.

So:
D\...\Documents\Folder_abc\... had been backuped (with its content) to K\Documents\Folder_abc\...

But:
D\...\Documents\mmm.accdb (a single file) had been backuped to K\Documents\Documents\mmm.accdb.
(Reflector had created a new folder 'Documents' in 'K\Documents').

I'm adding a screenshot of the task (it's in Dutch).
The jpg, wpd and accdb files are the separate files in it.
Would you know what I should do to put the backup of these files directly into K\Documents (not in K\Documents\Documents)?

Best regards,

quasar

This is because you have "Always create to parent folder" checked.

Hi,

Thanks for your answer.
I suppose 'Always create to parent folder' is the option in 'Advanced' that in Dutch is called 'Maak altijd een bovenliggende map...' (see screenshot)?
I unchecked it, but when running the task, there was another problem.

Reflector now put subfolders directly in the main folder where the backup was to be placed.

For instance I have these folders to backup:
D\...\Documents\Folder_abc\Subfolder_xxx\...
D\...\Documents\Folder_abc\Subfolder_yyy\...

In my backup the folder Folder_abc was omitted.
I got:
K:\Documents\Subfolder_xxx\...
K:\Documents\Subfolder_yyy\...

Or did I uncheck the wrong option?

Best regards,

quasar

Yes, that is the option. It should be marked in order to create some structure.

Hi,
But if it's marked, the separate files are put in a supplementary folder 'Documents' instead of in the main folder.
They should backup as K\Documents\xxx.accdb, but Reflector backups them as K:\Documents\Documents\xxx.accdb.
Is there a solution for this problem?

No. That has been the behavior since 2007.

:OK Hi,
OK that this is the behavior of Reflector since 2007 - I didn't know as I'm using it since a few days only.
But I will return to Cobian Backup, as it puts the separate files correctly in the main backup folder (I just tested it).
Thanks for the explanations and best regards,

The problem may be that your backup folder in the file tab (K:\Documenten) has the same name as the original folder of the files. Try a name that is representative of the content (K:\Documenten_BkUp)

I do not see the timestamp either in the samples you wrote for your backups ?

A suggestion for Cobian to ease the program debug, add in the log files a list of all the parameters (task ones and general ones) used for each backUp
