Launch "pre-backup" tasks with Admin privileges

Post by Talut »

First of all, thanks for this superb program that I have been using this program for many years on several systems. :APP :APP

Now, I have a small doubt using Cobian Reflector version 2.5.10 and sorry if it was solved, but I have not been able to find the answer searching inside the forum.

I would like to know if it is possible and how to execute some batch or exe files in the pre-backup and post-backup events, BUT with administrator rights.

Thanks and good day.

You need to impersonate the task with an account with administrative rights but this will execute the whote task in an elevated way. There is no way to elevate just the events.

Thank you for your response, Luis.
You mean running the task as administrator using the command line? I've currently solved it that way, using the task scheduler, but if there was a way from within the Cobian Reflector GUI that would be great.
Best regards.

Use impersonation in the Advanced tab of the task.

Unfortunately, I was trying it before posting on the forum and it didn't work for me. Maybe I did something wrong. I will try again. Thank you very much again.

Are you on a domain or on a single computer?

Hello!

The computer is on a domain and I am logging on to the computer with an account that has administrative privileges.

I still used the impersonation option with the same user that has administrative permissions. The impersonation goes fine, but it does not execute the pre-backup event with advanced permissions, as you can see in the screenshot, as it does not open the encrypted drive that the EXE file requests in the pre-backup (which needs elevated permissions to do that task).

However, from the Windows task scheduler, it runs everything fine by calling Cobian from a batch file containing the command line sentence that calls the same backup task.

Thanks for your time.

If E: is a network drive then run the program as an application.

Hello, Luis.

The letter E: is a USB drive encrypted with Bitlocker, which is always connected to the computer for operational reasons. So, I want to run the pre-backup event to unlock the drive, then do the backup, and finally lock the drive again with the post-backup event.

In this way, if the computer is attacked by a ramsonware virus (for example), the drive is intended to remain out of reach of the virus.

I did a lot of testing and I think one of them was to try launching the program as an application. But I will check it again....

Thank you very much for your help, Luis.

Try as an application and tell me if it works.
