update fails after "Uninstalling..."

Post by sstarker »

Hi.
When I go to "Install" the update (it was working before) it gives me a new windows and it says, "Starting the installation...Uninstalling the existing instance of the program..." and then the window disappears. I'm run Windows 11. I have disabled Malewarebytes and IObit's Advanced SystemCare. Can you give me advance as to what I should do now?
Thanks.

Do you find any error in the Event Viewer?

You must look under the Windows Logs/Application log in the Event viewer-

With the Windows Logs/Application log I get 3 events right after I installed it:
Information 2/20/2024 5:11:00 PM Windows Error Reporting 1001 None
Error 2/20/2024 5:10:57 PM Application Error 1000 Application Crashing Events
Error 2/20/2024 5:10:56 PM .NET Runtime 1026 None

After going through all of the steps for .NET Runtime 1026 I have found that NONE of them worked. I turned back to the Event Viewer and the details are
Application: Cobian.Reflector.Setup.exe
Framework Version: v4.0.30319
Description: The process was terminated due to an unhandled exception.
Exception Info: System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception
at System.Diagnostics.Process.StartWithShellExecuteEx(System.Diagnostics.ProcessStartInfo)
at Cobian.Reflector.Installer.uninstallOldInstance()
at Cobian.Reflector.Installer.workingThread()
at System.Threading.ExecutionContext.RunInternal(System.Threading.ExecutionContext, System.Threading.ContextCallback, System.Object, Boolean)
at System.Threading.ExecutionContext.Run(System.Threading.ExecutionContext, System.Threading.ContextCallback, System.Object, Boolean)
at System.Threading.ExecutionContext.Run(System.Threading.ExecutionContext, System.Threading.ContextCallback, System.Object)
at System.Threading.ThreadHelper.ThreadStart()

I have deleted all of the Cobian files and I assume that the "uninstallOldInstance()" would get skipped being that my system was new.

In Service I have "Volume Shadow Copy Manages and implements... Running Automatic"

Is there anything that I might try now?

Try uninstalling thep program manually first. If that fails, delete

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CobianSoft\Cobian Reflector

and try installing again.
