Unexpected Date/Time in file names

Post by AspiEd »

My first post:

I have been using Cobian Reflector for a few days.

My tasks make incremental copies to another drive in my pc and then copy those files to an external usb drive attached to a Synology Diskstation.

The "Create new separated backups" option in Task->General screen is UNchecked in each case.

The local copy tasks are working fine but the onward copying tasks to the DS usb drive is creating separate files which contain the time and date.

This is obviously creating unnecessary files and consuming much more space than required.

Am I missing something?

TIA

Are you using 2 different tasks here? One for internal copy and the other for the external USB storage?

Yes, but not to the same location.

The first is copying from C to drive G;

The second is copying from G to drive U;

I have noticed that the 2nd task is now creating 2 files for each file.

It is correctly overwriting the existing file but it is also creating a read-only version with the date/time in the file name.

Below is an example of just one file but there are actually very many.

Thanks and yes, that is what I actually wanted to do and will now try that.....

As you said, that does not explain the issue.....

As an aside, should I receive email notifications of replies to my posts?

I'm not, even though my account is set to.

Ok, so I've combined the backups into single tasks.

C -> G ( G is usb stick attached to pc)

C -> U ( U is usb drive attached to networked Synology Diskstation)

Although I select U:\etc, the backup task converts U:\etc to the fully qualified path (//ip address/usb_drive/folder/etc.

When tested, there were 2 new files and the copy to G was fine;

The copy to U creates the 2 files correctly and also 2 read-only files with the date + time in the filenames.

So, it is the copying of files to the network drive which creates the problem....

Thanks

So perhaps it's the date oart that is creating the problem. Some NASes have problem with the semicolon ; in the file name.

There are no semicolons in any filename.

In addition, I have now found that additional backups are being made, but only to the usb drive attached to the nas.

The task is scheduled to run Daily at a specific time. The option to run Missed Backups is set On.

The changed files are copied once, without the date/time in the filename, but then:

Are you using parameters in your source?

No parameters other than those set in the Task.

Here's the task which includes the pst files I've already shown but the same applies to all files.

I do not understand why it is also doing additional backups after the scheduled one.
