How to reduce CPU temperatures?

Post by Glaucos »

How can I reduce/limit the CPU temperature while backing up?
Limiting PL1 and PL2 has no effect here - CR works on one core and consumes too little power for this limitation to be activated. Despite this, on my NUC13ANHi7 with Intel 1360p, during Cobian Ref operation, I have 100 degrees C for 20-30 minutes and constantly 5.0 GHz in Turbo mode with a load below 20W.
PL settings below TDP (28W) are rather pointless...
This worries me. I am afraid that the life of this equipment will be significantly shortened.
Can I somehow fix this in the program settings or in the copy itself?
1360P does not allow undervolting or clock modification, only PL1 and PL2 are possible.

Uncheck the option to show the exact progress of the backup. This should solve this problem I think.

Thank you.
Yes, this has improved the situation: the average temp is now around 85-100 C, but 100 only appears for a while while Cobian is running. Most often 87-95 C.
To lower temperatures - is it better to use zip or 7zip archives?
Is there anything else I can do to make Cobian work slower but "colder"?
Is it possible to somehow reduce the application priority for the CPU?
Thank you for your time.

Compression is the big problem here. No compression is the best option, but you could use 7zip with lowest possible compression level
