Message: "This file is in use" when selecting QuickBooks database in use

Post by daemonvic »

first of all, congratulations on this new adventure with Cobian Reflector you will succeed I'm sure of that.

Just wondering if you have any comments to this issue that is happening to me when I'm trying to backup a QuickBooks database that is in use by the QuickBooks service (QuickBooks database manager) and network users is like is not using the Volume Shadow Copy service from the Windows Server 2012r2 Standard, i double check the Volume Shadow Copy (VSS) and it is working on the server.

Thank you again for you contribution and good luck!

Thank you for your quick response and yes that message pops up when the file is selected and in this case because of the file is being used by the QuickBooks Database manager can't do anything unless i choose another file that is not open or being used for a windows process.

Thank you! :D

You are compressing the files. Compression doesn't support Volume Shadow Copies.

If the QuickBooks file is stored on a network drive, ensure that there are no network connectivity issues. Also, verify that other users are not accessing the file simultaneously.

In my experience the best way to back up quickbooks is to force one machine to do backups every time the database is closed and then do the backup after they leave. Trying to backup the live database will just be frustrating. Or if you leave a copy of QB running 100% of the time you can program backups every day at some time and then backup the backup file an hour after that.
