Sometimes that works, but Google is constantly tricking the user into disable less secure apps. And changing security permissions without the customer's knowledge. Google really, really wants you on OAuth2 or web mail where they can data mine your eMail.
What I have resorted to doing is creating a second zoho eMail account for users with gmail.

A custoer jsut got this from Google Workspace:
But I must also point out that Google has been threatening this for years.Starting September 30, 2024, Google Workspace accounts will only allow access to apps using OAuth. Password-based access (with the exception of App Passwords) will no longer be supported. POP and IMAP are NOT going away and can still be enabled with apps that connect using OAuth.
