For the time being you can use per application passwords to get past OAuth2.
I use it on clients older Machines to download e-mails on older outlook versions / Windows Live Mail (program) / Any program that doesn`t support OAuth2.

Google has guide on how to generate a per application password - https://support.google.com/mail/answer/185833?hl=en-GB
And livewire has some nice pictures to assist - https://www.lifewire.com/get-a-password ... -2-1171882

Is V2 in beta yet? I'd love to be in on the testing of OAuth2.

Take your time. It is better to be right and late than wrong and on time.
