Cobian Reflector Service Stopped

Post by bilvihur »

I installed the latest Cobian Reflector version as a service, ran a manual backup of a small directory, everything worked well. I shutdown overnight (Windows 7), and prepared to backup a larger directory this morning. However, there wasn't a Reflector icon in the lower right corner. When I looked at services, both cobian services were stopped.

I do not have permissions to start the services (access is denied).
What might I be doing wrong?
Thanks

Take a look at the event viewer and see if you find some info there.

Also, every time I access the forum I must logon again, even though I check Remember Me. Quite awkward.

About the problem... Try repairing the permissions. This sounds like the service is accessing some file with bad permissions. Quiet strange.

I tried repairing permissions without success, even after rebooting.
I then downloaded the latest version and installed it in the old folder, and got this:

Starting the installation...Uninstalling the existing instance of the program...
Waiting for the uninstaller to exit...
The uninstaller has just timed out.
Creating the start menu icons...
An error occurred while creating a shortcut in the start menu: Cannot create a file when that file already exists.

I now had the Reflector icon, but when I opened it saw this:

I know this is a Beta version, but some of these problems must have been encountered in testing. I will uninstall Reflector using the Geek Uninstaller and try a fresh install later. Thanks.

The program was not uninstalled so it's normal you got all those errors.

This is the first report of this kind I'm getting so I really don't know the cause at this moment.

I would restart te computer and uninstall the program manually. The install it again to see if you got it working.

I did a full uninstall of Reflector using Geek. I re-installed and was able to do a full backup of a large directory. I put the computer in Sleep mode overnight, and Reflector was running when I "woke" it up.
When you suggested "Repair permissions" in your previous reply, I didn't realize there was a Reflector -> Tools -> Repair permissions option. However, I couldn't have accessed it because the Reflector Engine was stopped. I had used the Windows Folder -> Properties -> Security route.
I want to backup another directory, then will do a shutdown, and see if the Reflector Service starts up automatically. Thanks.

After doing a backup, I Shutdown and Restarted Windows. The Reflector icon appeared, and both the Reflector Engine and VSC services started automatically. Don't know what changed, but it's working as expected now. Thanks.
PS The forum states we have to login EACH time we reply to a thread. If that's the case, what advantage is there in checking the "Remember Me" box? I DO accept cookies...
