Deleting old backups

Post by WesR » Sat Nov 02, 2019 8:11 pm

I have enough space for 2 Full Backups and many incremental backups, but it doesn't seem to be deleting old backups.
I'm not sure whether the program will delete the old backups prior to the new Full backup or after, therefore I am currently set to keep 1 Full backup.

The program is set to: Daily Incremental backup, separated backup using timestamps, one destination
Keeping 1 Full copy and set to make one full every 2 days (for now for testing)
No compression/encryption

Expect it to have 1 (or possibly 2) full backups and 2 incremental backups for each Full backup.
When keeping 1, I would expect it to make a second full backup, either deleting the first before or after the second full is done, but it never deletes the old backups.

I see:
Full Backup
Incremental Backup
Incremental Backup
Full Backup
Incremental Backup
Incremental Backup
Full Backup < fails due to disk space

I did see the Parked flag on the first Full backup. Is this normal?
At one point I deleted the Parked Full backup, but it didn't seem to make a difference.

Any ideas of what might be wrong?

Thanks

So it does seem to be working now. I'm not sure what is different.

As I suspected when set to keep 2 backup copies, it writes the 3rd backup (running out of space) before deleting the 1st backup.

Let me know if you have any better ideas or workarounds to do this.

Thanks,

Wes

I wiped all the backups and then ran the incremental job three times. It did a full backup as expected and then two incremental backups, again as expected. I am not 100% sure when it did it, but the full backup now has the Parked flag. This is unexpected by me.

Now that the Parked flag is there, will that backup never get deleted?

Thanks

To continue, I now have the following:

Code: Select all

Full Backup with Parked Flag
Incremental Backup
Incremental Backup
Full Backup
Incremental Backup
Incremental Backup
I just kicked it off again and it is doing another full backup without deleting either of the other two Full backups. This is currently set to keep 1 backup.

Any idea's why it sets the parked flag? I think that's the reason why it it not deleting the backup.

Thanks,

Wes

The first backup will always get "parked" by default to prevent the program to delete it. This can be disabled at Options-Engine-First backup parked
