Reported backup size is way too huge

Post by zvika » Mon Jun 10, 2019 4:07 pm

I've defined a backup task in order to copy one external hard disk to another one.
The hard disk size is "2TB". (that's from the vendor's point of view, Windows sees it as 1.81 TB)
Windows reports that its used space is 1.08TB.

The backup task was defined for only part of the hard disk folders, with exclude filters, so the task size is expected to be somewhat lower than 1.08TB.

However, when running the task, it's reported size is 4297332.28 TB (!)

Do the source contain some junction points? Try unchecking Options-Engine-Include junctions and re-calculate by refreshing the list.

I wasn't aware of these junction points, but indeed, that's solved the problem.

Maybe it should be the default? (or at least, maybe it's worthwhile to add some mechanism to avoid unreasonable loops?)

Some people prefer to have this option on if they are only backing up one directory that contains a junction outside of it, which makes sense. But if (like in your case) your junction target is already contained in the source , you get vicious circle that's definitely not a good thing. ;)
